Vando to me set the standard for male German Shepherds.  He came to us as an import in Oct 2004.  From the moment we picked him up at the airport it was love at first sight.  His temperament was extremely stable.  He would be trusted completely in all situations. He was not lacking in drive, esp for the ball, and would gladly step up to protect, yet easily shut it down, becoming calm and dependable even around infants, toddlers and children when we visited the local  Daycare.  Vando held a stricking and imposing presence, beautiful and powerful.  But he also was a real character, having a real sense of humour.  I always felt safe with him by my side.  We sadly lost him suddenly to Mesenteric Torsion, we did everything  we could, and Vando fought hard, but in the end we had to say 'goodbye'.  He was a great ambassador for the German Shepherd.
